Love is seasonal. In all that we love there is a cycle.
In the spring all that comes up is a surprise, a gift. Every moonwhite bud on the apple tree holds the promise of harvest. In the summer is the nurturing and the warmth, the joy and the gratitude, in the watering and the nurturing and growth.
In the fall, there is a relaxing. Into the work of harvest. The acceptance of gifts with the trust that what has been planted will take care of us and nurture us in the coming time.
Then comes the winter and darker days. Gestation cultivating the dream under the mulch and the tender loving care we’ve given, so the new buds can set for the coming spring.
It’s a medicine wheel, a turning of time, our love that we put in. We see the results, we gather, we give, we wish, and we want this cycle to happen in all our love relationships. And we ask ourselves, have we mulched well to hold in the moisture? Have we watered well? Is there enough warmth and illumination? Are we nurturing? Are we learning new ways to cultivate, protect and honor what we’ve been given?
Remain curious, opening with wonder at the miracles of growth, harvest and gestation. Tending in tenderness, pruning, with the spaciousness required for anything to ripen into wholeness. Relationship to anyone or anything requires knowledge, a knowing of how much is needed. Much of this is intuitive, subtle and opening. Some requires action, exploring, wondering. In order to harvest in any relationship, we need to embrace ourselves, another, a community, new ideas, with the ability to learn.
Every individual soul has its own growth and cyclical journeys. What we hope is that we can accept the journey we are on, and the great budding growth and harvest we have come to offer the world. New fruit, new joy, new labor.
We begin with ourselves, are we cultivating our own dream? Are we feeding the beautiful in our own nature? Are we creating? Have we set time aside for reflection and listening to our own heart? Our own spirit? We are ever changing, growing and transforming as are our loved ones. Can we explore the ever changing facets of ourselves and our loved ones? Even moving on to acceptance and gratitude, for ourselves and those we have chosen to love.
Are we clear about what we need? If we don’t know, we can reflect, listen to our own callings, and fulfill our healthy self-loving dreams and hauntings. If we give to ourselves this will shower regenerative light on those people and processes that we love. Our friends and companions and our deep loved ones require also the joy, listening, laughter, reflection, acceptance and gratitude. We offer ourselves, our many commitments, and the gifts of spaciousness, togetherness, and reflection.
Commit to love, to what you love, or to who you love; to both. Commit to showing up in relationships that have fire, an opalescent beauty. Bring your wisdom, your heart, your smile, your honesty and warmth. How would you like the light of another to shine on your life?
Shine that light on the life of your loved ones. Remain curious, wonder and exclaim over every blossom, with the promise of a Golden Delicious at every branch. Encourage, validate yourself, your lovers, your friends and community. Trust the seasons. Offer your full attention to the dreams you share and support each other and celebrate the dreams that are different. Exploring our dreams in the presence of another can be blissful.
In the silence of the garden, everything comes together. Everything conspires for the blossoming and growth of the year to come. If we do our work planting and showing up, watering and weeding, we will cultivate greater and greater harvest.
Our heart, our creativity and our work.
As we enter fall, the season of harvest and gratitude and preparation, we can ask, what do I need to do, if anything, to focus and cultivate my relationship with myself? Do I get time with myself, even ten minutes a day, to reflect on my dreams and what is important to me? If I don’t know what’s important to me I can’t share it, if I can’t share with those who are close to me, I can’t deepen in intimacy. We continue to learn how to reflect accurately on the outside what is going on on the inside. Can we be completely and truly ourselves?
Do this with honor and respect.
How is my relationship with myself reflected in the relationships around me? Do those relationships reflect courage, honesty and openness? Do I see my own humor and self-care reflected back to me? What have I planted in my love and close relationships, what am I harvesting as a result? Plant the words and thoughts, do repair work if needed, shifting them in a positive direction.
You’re an element all your own. You choose what to water, what to thin or weed out. Keep what is nourishing and supportive. “Beautiful words create beautiful feelings, ugly words create ugly feelings,” Dr. Emoto so eloquently says. Focus on the good, the true and the beautiful in yourself and your loved ones, and you will have a full hearted harvest going into the future and always.
Looking forward to this year, with gratitude and with great love,
